Shine Children Sponsorship

Valeria is a new mom to her 8 month old son. She lives in an agricultural community in a tropical, rural region. Most people in this region try to work in the sugar cane fields which is seasonal, dangerous and the wage is very low resulting in not being able to meet basic needs. In this community, disciplining with violence is culturally acceptable within families, and children are vulnerable to exploitation and neglect. When families struggle with poverty, kids often leave school to work. Getting access to healthcare and education proves challenging due to cost and distance. Valeria does have access to water and electricity but no access to toilets so proper sanitation methods are difficult. Valeria is not in school at this time because of recently giving birth, but the goal is to have her return to complete her diploma. Valeria is in our MOMS mentorship program where along with biblical discipleship, she gains better knowledge about nutrition and healthcare for her child as well as parenting, employment and life skills.
